A MUM will go the extra mile for her son who was born with a hole in his heart.
Anne-Marie Craven, 37, from Colwyn Bay, will compete in the London Marathon to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.
Her son Bailey, 13, has been under regular cardiologist care at Alder Hey since he was three days old.
Miss Craven, wanted to put herself through the 26 mile race after being heavily exposed to heart conditions, not only through Bailey, but also in previous employment as a ward clerk at the intensive care unit in Glan Clwyd.
Miss Craven said: “Bailey is full of life and has never let the hole in his heart stop him but he still has to see the cardiologist yearly to have checks.
“I’ve also seen first hand how heart conditions can completely change people’s lives. It’s now my time to give back.”
Having never run a marathon before, Miss Craven has undergone a transformation to take on what she calls “the ultimate physical challenge”.

“I’ve gone from only being able to walk a half marathon to running ten miles and training daily. My old lifestyle saw me living on junk food and drinking alcohol every weekend. My friends have said it’s very inspirational what I’m doing which is really nice, but for me I needed to change my lifestyle or I would have ended up going to the cardiologists myself.” Miss Craven added.
To achieve her new lifestyle, the single mother, who has two other children Amber, nine, and Poppy, seven, has enlisted the guidance of Colwyn Bay MMA fighter Azi Thomas.
Miss Craven who has raised £160 towards sponsorship at her children’s school Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn, is now holding a raffle to raise extra funds.
Prizes include two tickets to Rhyl Pavilion to see Remembering Fred starring Strictly Come Dancing stars Alijaz and Janette, a voucher for Johnny Dough’s pizza and a voucher for a family ticket to Anglesey Sea Zoo.
Miss Craven said: “Any contribution, no matter the size would be a great help.”
