The North Wales Pioneer are about to have some new neighbours.

Colwyn Bay will be the new home of The Daily Post who will move from their Vale Road base in Llandudno Junction to Bryn Eirias this spring after 16 years. North Wales Pioneer is located on Penrhyn Road - about 0.8 miles away. The Pioneer has called Colwyn Bay its home for more than 40 years.

Daily Post Editor Andrew Campbell said: "We have some great memories of Llandudno Junction but it's time to move on.

"Colwyn Bay is on the up and we're delighted to become part of its resurgence."

A more detailed announcement will be issued in the coming weeks along with a date for the move.

It is understood that the first that Daily Post staff knew of the relocation was when they read a press release issued by retailer Lidl about its plans to redevelop the site. Daily Post is owned by Trinity Mirror.

Lidl's proposals for a new supermarket, which would create 40 jobs and also include the regeneration of the Arriva building on Vale Road.

As part of their plans, Lidl will hold a public consultation outling plans for their new store which would include an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual parking facilities and customer toilets.

Councillor Sue Shotter of Marl ward, where the proposals are based, encouraged her constituents to attend and give their views.

She said: "It's really important for everyone to see what Lidl are proposing. I'm really excited about the creation of new jobs but I also have concerns.

"Vale Road is a mix of residential homes and businesses. In an already traffic polluted area, I want to know what Lidl's plans are to stop traffic congestion and whether they will provide ample parking for shoppers."

The consultation will take place between 3pm and 7pm next Monday at Llandudno Junction Labour and Social Club on Conway Road

Lidl’s property team will be on hand to outline the supermarket’s plans for the new store and answer any questions from the community.
